At SAIS the Early Learning Environment is designed to encourage the development of the whole child. Social/Emotional, Physical and Intellectual areas of child development are fostered and will lead to happy children, as well as the acquisition of academic skills. Students will be assigned to a class based upon their readiness levels, with chronological age as one consideration.
Through the use of a variety of teaching strategies, and a special emphasis on the Project Approach, in which students do long term investigations of selected topics, children enrolled in the ELE will progress in the following domains:
In each area systems sustainability and the effects on our future are emphasized.
- Academic Skills (colors, shapes, objects, letters, numbers)
- Language (Speaking, listening, Reading and Writing Awareness)
Social and Emotional
- Collaboration (taking turns, sharing, group activities)
- Self-Reliance and Self Management
- Communication of needs and wants
- Appreciation of Nature
- Kindness and Friendship
- Hand-eye coordination
- Health-related fitness
- Physical Awareness
- Fine Motor Skills

Students learn through a mixture of first-hand observation, hands-on experience, systematic instruction, and personal reflection.” Dr. Sylvia C. Chard, Professor and Developer of “The Project Approach”We look forward to seeing your child at SAIS Early Learning Environment.
